Tubing Weekend , Ressica Falls PA, January 12 - 14, 2007

Ressica Falls Scout Reservation is located 3.5 hours from our homes in southern PA. After a long drive and a quick snack, several Scouts wanted to work on some of their skills, including knots.
Saturday Morning after breakfast, Scouts and leaders went to Camelback mountain for snow tubing. The family size tubes hold 4, and were a big hit with everyone. You can get a lot of speed down the hill with a full tube.
The nice thing about tubing at a park like this is not having to drag your tube all the way to the top of the mountain. Cable lifts attach to the tubes and pull you to the top, allowing you to go much further up than you would if you had to keep carrying the tube yourself.
There were three single tube runs open, allowing Scouts to race each other down the hill. Various laying and sitting positions were tried to determine which gives the fastest run. The boys frequently in their discussion as to how to be the fastest used terms like “drag” and “aerodynamics”.
From the snow we went to an indoor water park. Everyone had fun on the two water slides.
One attraction at the Water Park is to cross some floating lily pads, hanging onto the net above. This proved to be easier for shorter Scouts than taller Scouts.
The “Lazy River” allowed Scouts to either swim or float in tubes around the park. Lots of fun was had sneaking up behind or under other Scouts or leaders and knocking them off their tubes.
The river provided a nice place to just float, and let the current carry you, with or without a tube.
The park included a hot tub for the older Scouts and adults to relax.
The local resident alligator decided that perhaps one Scout would be tasty. He changed his mind very quickly.
The evening was finished with campfire songs and skits back at the cabin. Energy remained high well into the late night.
