2014 Hershey Bears Scout Night

On the the night of December 26, Troop 205 attended the annual Hershey Bears scout night at the Giant Center in Hershey PA.

Challenge

December Cooking Challenge

On the weekend of December 12-14, Troop 205 Scouts and pack 205 Webelos returned to Hidden Valley for a December Cook off challenge. Breakfast included Burritos cooked in Texican and Pennsylvanian fashion. Lunch included three soups, Rotisserie Chicken Noodle Soup, New England clam chowder and Tomato Soup. Dinner had four entrees, Turkey, Goose, Duck, Chicken and a Surprise. The dinner also included Stuffing, Mashed Potatoes, Turnp, butternut Squash, and Green Beans. The was also some cooking demos that included Smoked Salmon, Butter Basted Grilled Lobster, Grilled Oysters, Fried Okra, and more.

Railroading Merit Badge

On November 22, 2014, several Troop 205 Scouts headed to Strasburg PA to the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania. The Scouts earned the Railroading Merit Badge. Working on the Railroading Merit Badge in the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania is certainly a unique experience.

Landscape Architecture Landscape Architecture Merit Badge

On Saturday November 15th Ethan, Luke, and Nic met at Stonewall Landscaping to complete the final requirements for the Landscape Architecture Merit Badge. In the 3 hours they were there they learned how to identify and select plants for landscaping projects in their zone. They learned how to identify plants by bark, buds, leaf shape, and fall colors.

Sea Base

Sea Base High Adventure - On Going!

A couple of years ago, Troop 205 scouts set a goal to attend the BSA high adventure camp Sea Base. In addition, the scouts wanted to participate in the scuba dive focused track. In preparation, all the attending scouts and leaders obtained their Diver’s certification. Sea Base has three camps, Troop 205 selected the base in Key West Florida. The transportation entailed traveling by air and then by bus. The Cost was offset by many fundraisers. The scouts will be attending the week of July 6-13.

Northern Tier

Northern Tier High Adventure Camp

Three members of Troop 205 (Drew, Ben, and Andrew) traveled with a Troop from Alabama to the Northern Tier High Adventure Camp. From June 27 through July 2; they were in the Atikokan camp. The Atikokan camp offers scouts a chance to experience what it may have been like to be a Voyageur of the 18th century, transporting fur across the Canadian wilderness via canoe and portage. For 6 days, we paddled across many lakes and rivers for a total of over 75 miles, often having to walk between lakes, carrying all of our supplies and canoes on a portage.

Troop 205 Family Cooking Challenge

On Sunday June 29th, troop 205 held a summer family Cooking Challenge. Each family was asked to bring ingredients to cook on one of the 5 Grills or over an open fire and to preparing enough to share with everyone else.

Troop 205 Local Service Projects - Bench Refinishing

At the intersection of Forest Avenue and Main Street in Shrewsbury Borough are four wood benches. The benches are place one on each corner in the heart of the Antique shops. The benches were first placed by the Shrewsbury Beatification Project. Troop 205 refinished the benches in June 2009 and with 5 years passing it was certainly time for to refinish the benches again.
The morning of June 21, several scouts from Troop 205 started this project by transporting the four benches from the center of Shrewsbury to the Brainard’s house.

Summer Camp at Hidden Valley

Troop 205 Summer Camp at Hidden Valley Scout Reservation

Every year Troop 205 attends at least one Summer camp. This year during the week of June 22-28 a group of Troop 205 scouts and leaders attended Hidden Valley Scout Reservation located in Loysville, PA. Hidden Valley Scout Reservation features a 40 foot climbing wall, lots of merit badges, swimming, archery and lots of outdoors.

Annual Picnic

Troop 205 Annual Picnic and Packing for Summer Camp

On the Saturday June 21, a day before the beginning of Troop 205 regular summer camp, Troop 205 held their annual picnic and truck packing event. The picnic was held at Sweeney Park which was the location of the Merit badge Camporee was held the month before. Many Troop 205 scouts and leaders are off to summer camp at Hidden Valley.

National Youth Leadership Training

During the week of June 15-21, Troop 205 Senior Scouts Ethan and Nic attended National Youth Leadership Training, the program is designed for councils to provide youth members with leadership skills and experience they can use in their home troops and in other situations demanding leadership of self and others.

On Saturday June 14, Several Scouts from troop 205 went to Guppy Gulch for a refresher in Scuba driving. All the scouts are currently certified in Scuba diving and will be going to High Adventure trip to Seabase in July.

Troop 205 Local Service Projects

A scout is helpful, in June Troop Scouts and parents participated in two local service projects. On June 13, scouts and Parents set up tables and chairs for a spaghetti dinner that benefits a Grace Methodist Church member whom is battling leukemia.
On June 3, Troop leader Dawn, has a neighbor whom has been diagnosed with an aggressive cancer this winter, he has a problem with bending. He needed Scout’s help to have some weeds and grass pulled out of some flower beds, spread 8-20 bags of mulch and spread fertilizer (with a spreader).

On the weekend of May 30-June 1 Scouts and parents from Troop 205 participated in the 8th Annual Merit Badge Camporee at Sweeny Park in Shrewsbury, the home of Troop 90.

Helping Hand

Helping Hand

Grace Methodist Church is the sponsor of Troop and Pack 205. One of the many outreach ministries that Grace Methodist Church participates in is Helping Hand. Helping Hand provides meals for residents of York PA on weekends. Many different churches are involved to cover all the dates. Grace Methodist Church cooks, packages and delivers the food on the third Sunday of each month. Troop 205 Parents and Scouts help each month with Helping Hand. This May, Troop 205 was asked to be the primary group to help with Helping Hand. So, on May 18 several Troop 205 Parents and Scouts cooked, packaged, packed the trucks, distributed the food to many York PA residents, had some fun, returned and cleaned up.

On May 2, 2014, Troop 205 held its Annual Spaghetti Dinner fund raiser. The members of Troop 205 worked hard to make it the Dinner a great success! The moneys raised will help pay for camping fees and equipment.

March Cooking Challenge

On the weekend of March 21-23, Troop 205 scouts Ethan, Luke B, Dylan W, Greg, Devin, Ben, Dakota, Brandon and Tyson along with Leaders Mr. Steve, Mr. Andrew, Mr. Shane and Ms. Deb went to Hidden Valley for a March Cook off challenge. For this challenge, the scouts were given at the campout ingredients and had to make a tasty dish. The tricky part was the diabolical ingredients Mr. Steve brought, which included Squid, Conch and something called Andouille!

On the weekend of March 8 and 9, Scouts and family members from Troop 205 worked the annual PawsAbilities Service Dog show held at at the Harrisburg Farm show complex. All proceeds from PawsAbilities benefits the work of Susquehanna Service Dogs.

On the weekend February 7-9, Troop 205 held the annual Ski Trip campout. The skiing, snowboarding fun was at Eagle Rock Ski resort. The scouts camped at nearby Hawk Mountain Scout Reservation.

On the weekend January 27, Troop 205 attended the Klondike Winter campout for fun in the cold. The Klondike was located at Hidden Valley Scout camp.
