Flag Day 2015
On Sunday June 14, 2015, Flag day, Scoutmaster Mike organized a trip to
Parkton American Legion Post 256. On this Flag Day Scoutmaster Mike and
several Troop 205 scouts and leaders participated in the Dignified Flag
Disposal service. The Dignified Flag Disposal service is a ceremony to
take care of flags that are no longer fit for service.
One flag is chosen for the service; Scoutmaster Mike will carry it through
out the Service. The remaining flags are then prepared to be burned.
The Ceremony is normally outside, but due to high heat and chance for a
thunderstorm the first part of the ceremony was held inside.
The Ceremony was very impressive; Commander Bill Baker oversaw the
proceedings. The local scout Troop helped with the advancing of the
colors. Post Champlain Bud Baier gave the invocation. Fitting on
Flag Day America was sung, the Pledge of Allegiance was recited and
the Star Spangled Banner was sung. The Sargent of Arms Don Everhart,
Scoutmaster Mike and the Commander proceeded with the ceremony
The Ceremony is convened outside.
The hand salute, Taps was played, the Chaplin closed with pray
The Scouts of Troop 205 helped disposing of the remaining flags.
A great way to celebrate Flag Day.
